See main article: Water polo at the 2020 Summer Olympics and Water polo at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's qualification. The 2020 Men's Water Polo Olympic Qualification Tournament took place from 14 to 21 February 2021 in Rotterdam, Netherlands.[2] The top three teams advanced to the Olympics.

The tournament was scheduled to take place from 22 to 29 March and then from 31 May to 7 June 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3]

Due to their semifinal wins, both Montenegro and Greece qualified for the Olympics.[4] Croatia followed by winning the third place game.[5]
