2009 Sony Ericsson Open – Women's singles explained

Victoria Azarenka defeated the two-time defending champion Serena Williams in the final, 6–3, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2009 Miami Open. It was her third WTA Tour singles title, and first at the Premier or above level.^[1]
