Lindsay Davenport won the singles tennis title at the 2004 Stuttgart Open after World No. 1 Amélie Mauresmo retired due to injury, with the scoreline at 6–2, ret.[1]

Kim Clijsters was the two-time reigning champion, but did not compete this year due to a left wrist injury.[2]
