The 1981 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships were held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. Organized by The Athletics Congress (TAC), the competition took place on February 27 and served as the national championships in indoor track and field for the United States.[1] The championships in combined track and field events were held at a different date.[2] [3]

At the meeting, Eamonn Coghlan missed the world record in the men's 3 miles by just 0.2 seconds.[4]
