Season outline

Tienie Britz and England's Peter Oosterhuis had the most success at the beginning of the season. At the first event; the Luyt Lager PGA Championship, Britz, Oosterhuis, and Rhodesia's Don Gammon finished 72 holes tied at 280.[1] Britz won the 18-hole playoff, scoring a 67 against Oosterhuis' 70 and Gammon's 71.[2] At the third event, Oosterhuis was "well placed to win," possessing a three shot lead over Terry Westbrook entering the final round.[3] However, Oosterhuis shot a final round 74 and was overtaken by Westbrook.[4] The following week, however, Oosterhuis finally triumphed, defeating Britz by two shots at the Rhodesian Dunlop Masters.[5] At the sixth event, the ICL Transvaal Open, Britz again finished runner-up, losing to Bobby Cole in a sudden-death playoff.[6]
