The 1971–72 Southern Africa Tour was the inaugural season of the Southern Africa Tour, the main professional golf tour in South Africa since it was formed in 1971.
Tienie Britz and England's Peter Oosterhuis had the most success at the beginning of the season. At the first event; the Luyt Lager PGA Championship, Britz, Oosterhuis, and Rhodesia's Don Gammon finished 72 holes tied at 280.[1] Britz won the 18-hole playoff, scoring a 67 against Oosterhuis' 70 and Gammon's 71.[2] At the third event, Oosterhuis was "well placed to win," possessing a three shot lead over Terry Westbrook entering the final round.[3] However, Oosterhuis shot a final round 74 and was overtaken by Westbrook.[4] The following week, however, Oosterhuis finally triumphed, defeating Britz by two shots at the Rhodesian Dunlop Masters.[5] At the sixth event, the ICL Transvaal Open, Britz again finished runner-up, losing to Bobby Cole in a sudden-death playoff.[6]
The following table lists official events during the 1971–72 season.[7]
