The 1940 California Golden Bears football team season was an American football team that represented the University of California in Berkeley during the 1940 college football season. Under head coach Stub Allison, the team compiled an overall record of 4–6 and 3–4 in conference.[1] [2]

California was ranked at No. 40 (out of 697 college football teams) in the final rankings under the Litkenhous Difference by Score system for 1940.[3]
