- Agostino Scilla publishes Italian: La vana speculazione disingannata dal senso: lettera risponsiva c. i corpi marini, che petrificati si trovano in varii luoghi terrestri ("Vain Speculation Undeceived by Sense") in Naples, arguing for an organic origin for fossils.[4]
