- Early – Malachy, Bishop of Down, begins his first journey to Rome, via Scotland, England, and France, visiting Bernard of Clairvaux. He petitions Pope Innocent II for pallia for the Sees of Armagh and Cashel, and is appointed native legate for Ireland.[1]
